Document Witnessing Service

Pharmacists generally are authorised to certify that documents are true copies of originals.

Different rules apply in different States and Territories and for different documents, so it is important to check with your pharmacist about what the requirements are for your State or Territory.

Copies of documents provided in support of an application, or other purposes required by the National Law, must be certified as true copies of the original documents. A certified copy is a copy of an original document such as a birth certificate, marriage certificate or proof of identity that has been authorised (or stamped) as being a true copy of an original.

These certified copies are often required in support of loans, job applications and government services but you will be informed on application forms or in person if a certified copy is required.

Your pharmacist may also be authorised to witness your signature on documents.  It is important that you do not sign the document before taking it to the pharmacy as the pharmacist must physically witness you signing the document in their presence.

Your pharmacist may charge a small fee for these services.
